Last July 2021, Lola Matilde and her treacherous walk to fetch water made rounds in local news outlets.
Carrying at least 12 liters in a basket held by a tumpline across her forehead, the 75-year old takes multiple trips to a spring barefoot— to avoid slipping in the steep terrain.
Due to the difficult landscape and lack of road access, stable water supply remains to be a challenge in the mountain village of Sitio Calibasan in Toledo City, Cebu
